DeskWell was created by Maher Mouris, a developer who experienced firsthand the eye strain and digital fatigue that comes with long coding sessions. After researching the 20-20-20 rule and other eye health practices, he realized there was a gap in the market for a truly intelligent, privacy-focused eye protection app for macOS.
The first version of DeskWell was built to solve his own problem: remembering to take breaks during intense coding sessions. As he shared it with other developers and digital workers, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive - people needed this tool.
